3 Things You Can Do Today To Speak Japanese
3 Things You Can Do Today To Speak Japanese – for that quick win to get you talking let’s look a 3 very easy things that you can do today, right now!
- Go to YouTube and Learn the Japanese Question Words.
- Record yourself (multiple times) practicing your chosen question (on your mobile phone either as a video or audio file).
- Share your practice sentence and wait for the answers.
1) Go to YouTube and Learn the Japanese Question Words. Once you have the question words memorised you can ask for things and more importantly you will start to hear the answers which will in turn teach you new vocabulary. The first 2:30 minutes of this video will give you the question words on their own. If you are starting out, just concentrate on saying these words. If you are ready to learn some sentences, the same video will give you some example sentences to learn after 2:30. Alternatively, this video is fast-paced if you don’t have much time. In 6 minutes, Risa will give you 15 sentences to learn. Choose which video works best for you and learn at least one question sentence today.
2) Record your question sentence on your mobile phone either as a video or audio file. Let’s keep a record of your progress. Recording your practice sentence will keep you accountable to yourself and will give you something to review (and congratulate yourself on your progress when you look back later on). So download a voice recorder app. I like this one for Android (drop a comment below if you have a recommended Apple version). The action of recording your sentence will likely mean you re-record several times (I know I do 😉 ). Keep all versions of your recording and compare them with the example given in the YouTube video that you chose from the choices above. Listen carefully to your practice sentences and the speaker’s example. Choose your sentence that sounds closest to the example from the native speaker. Keep it. Delete all other practice recordings. You now have an historical progress marker.
3) Share your audio and wait for the answers. So you have taken up the challenge to learn one sentence. You have repeated the sentence after a native speaker. You have made multiple recordings of your focus sentence and have listened carefully and compared it with the native speaker’s version. You have chosen your best version for today… Have you noticed that if you followed these steps, you will have now listened to and spoken your sentence multiple times? Congratulations! You have trained your ear, mouth and brain already. Next we want to use the sentence for real! Download HiNative for Apple or Android. In HiNative you can record your question and ask for feedback. You can go into the app and ask “How’s my pronunciation” or “Does this sound natural”. Native speakers will be quick to reply and offer advice. You can also ask for example answer sentences. If you are eager to start chatting now, download HelloTalk to converse in real time with Japanese speakers. Just choose your focus language in the app and send your sentence “live” using the microphone icon. You can converse with as many people as you like and keep asking the same question all day!
So that is 3 Things You Can Do Today To Speak Japanese.
